Davide Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, receiving an EDA delegation in Brussels supported the cause for the inclusion of 40 million European citizens with dyslexia in the world of education and work.
“It is a matter of individual rights,” said Sassoli, “in addition to an economic problem caused by the lack of full personal and professional accomplishment of dyslexics in Europe.”
The meeting discussed the Erasmus Plus project dyslexia@work on the labor inclusion of dyslexics in Europe, a project that has just started and which will end in 2022 with a major event in Brussels, to promote guidelines and best practices to be adopted in companies, agencies placement and in all staff recruitment services, including public institutions.
The President gave his willingness to participate in the event, just as he gave his willingness to be present at the EDA congress to be held in Barcelona, Spain, during the European Dyslexia Week, where the project will be presented.
EDA has offered its technical support to the parliamentary offices which will take care of the issue of facilitating access to school and university education for European children in the member countries.
The European Parliament has already shown a sensitivity on the subject of accessibility with a provision presented in the last legislature by the Member of Parliament Daniele Viotti on accessibility to all documents of the Parliament and of the European Commission. MEP Brando Benifei, present at the meeting, offered to host a meeting with other European parliamentarians in order to present a proposal on the matter.
Brando Benifei, in response to a request from the EDA, to propose to the inter-group on the disability of the EP, of which he is vice president, the creation of a working group dedicated to dyslexia to develop active policies in favor of interested parties.
