Have your association join our community
New applications are welcome from relevant organisations and associations wishing to join our European network. Read more below about the types of memberships currently available, access the relevant application forms and learn more about the annual membership fees and most importantly the benefits of membership.
Types of membership
There are two types of memberships in the European Dyslexia Association:

Effective members
Effective members include the nine founder member associations plus other relevant organisations. Effective members are entitled to speak and vote at General Assemblies. To be an Effective Member an organisation must be an Association of parents and/or adults affected by dyslexia and/or dyscalculia, and be a non-profit voluntarily-run association. At least 50% of the Association’s Board must be adults with dyslexia and/or dyscalculia or parents of children under 18 with dyslexia and/or dyscalculia. This ensures that EDA is governed by those directly affected by dyslexia and dyscalculia. If this is your organisation type, please apply using the Application Form for Effective Membership.

Adherent members
Adherent members include corporate bodies and other entities. Adherent members are not entitled to vote at General Assemblies but may be present in an advisory capacity and will receive the same information as Effective Members. This category of membership includes schools, university departments, and other organisations who do not fulfil the criteria for Effective Membership. If this better reflects your organisation type, please apply using the Application Form for Adherent Membership below.
What is required of EDA members?
- Membership applicants have to be legally constituted according to their own national laws and customs.
- Members have to agree on and to accept only scientifically based methods of assessment and intervention for people with dyslexia and dyscalculia, and to abide by the EDA statutes.
- Both Effective and Adherent members have to pay an annual membership fee. Members can be excluded, if they fail to pay their annual membership fee.
EDA membership fees
To be equitable, the annual membership fee is related to the financial profile of each member organisation in the previous financial year. The annual membership fee ranges incrementally from €120 (for very small organisations with less than €50,000 annual income) to a maximum of €600 (for organisations with annual income over €1,000,000).
Annual membership fees help to support the work and actions of the EDA, as the organisation has no other guaranteed regular income and no paid staff.
EDA membership benefits
EDA membership provides opportunities to network and engage with colleagues working on similar issues in other countries, to learn and exchange. Information updates are emailed to member organisations periodically, and one free place is offered to EDA members for our Conferences and Summer Seminars. There is an annual General Assembly of members, usually held in May/June. EDA Members also receive priority notice of other events.

Disclaimer
Membership of the European Dyslexia Association does not convey any status on a member which could be construed as approval by the EDA of any and all activities, publications or statements undertaken by that member association. Any action by a member association which misrepresents the European Dyslexia Association by implying such approval will be considered a serious offence by the Board of Directors and will result in the termination of that association’s membership.
European Dyslexia Association membership is not for individuals. Instead we advice individuals to join a local organisation/association that is a member with the EDA (see the members list for more information).
